ELIH Foundation Year In Review

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As we reflect on a landmark year for the Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation (ELIHF), I’m filled with gratitude. Your generosity and partnership continue to strengthen care across the North Fork and Shelter Island.

In our hospital’s 120th anniversary year, we honored the past while building for the future. Together, we advanced critical initiatives that will benefit every patient who walks through our doors:

  • Stroke Care Momentum: We laid the groundwork for our Stroke Center— investing in equipment, staffing, and program development to bring time sensitive care closer to home.
  • Behavioral Health Expansion: Quannacut Outpatient Services in Riverhead received OMH licensure, expanding access to integrated mental health and addiction care in our region.
  • Clinical Excellence & Access: With the arrival of Dr. Alison Madden as Chief Medical Officer, who also provides gynecology care locally, plus continued growth in primary care, urology, surgery/wound care, orthopedics, and physiatry, more families are receiving high-quality care right here at home.
  • Equipment & Infrastructure: Donor support helped fund priority technology and facility upgrades—enhancing diagnostics, safety, and the patient experience across departments.

Our events this year were vibrant celebrations of purpose: the Annual Golf Classic, Dancing on the Dock, the Summer Soirée, our 5K Walk/Run, and the Fall Fishing Showdown & Lobster Bash—each fueling essential programs. The ELIH Auxiliary once again distinguished itself through extraordinary volunteerism and proceeds that directly support patient care.

We also celebrated the spirit of service with the Theodore Roosevelt Award, presented to Walter J. Krupski, Jr., honoring a lifetime of community leadership and dedication to our hospital.

Behind every initiative are people—nurses, physicians, therapists, techs, and staff—who show up every day with skill and heart. We continued to invest in our workforce through recognition programs, engagement efforts, and tools that help our teams deliver exceptional, compassionate care.

Looking ahead, the Foundation will focus on capital priorities that matter most to patients and clinicians: modern imaging and surgical technology, refreshed patient environments, expanded behavioral health capacity, and campus reliability and safety. With your help, we’ll ensure that Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) remains a trusted source of advanced care for generations to come.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Foundation staff, and our hospital family, thank you for your steadfast support. We wish you and your loved ones a healthy and peaceful season—and we look forward to all we will accomplish together in the year ahead.

With deep appreciation,
Paul Romanelli
